The Phantom of the Opera

I mainly chose to watch this because I felt like I should…not technically because I wanted to. I have plenty of opinions about the story, but the story is classic & don’t want to talk about it too much w/o giving away anything. I always find myself extremely annoyed w/ the story, but then I remember the context of which it was written & instead put up with it. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Phantom of the Opera in a respectful sense, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be critical of it. Anyways, back to the 2004 movie…”meh”…is what I found myself saying. Not that it’s a horrible movie, because converting an opera into a movie is extremely hard in the 1st place…but sometimes I just felt the corny meter was hitting the roof…and then I remembered oh wait, Joel Schumacher directed & co-wrote this? Aha! Everything makes sense now…! Alas, I do not intend to shame Mr. Schumacher, after all, he did apologize for “Batman & Robin” - so I’ll cut him some slack here (only a tiny bit though).
